Lawyers are required by the Federal Lawyers’ Act (BRAO) to maintain professional liability insurance with a minimum coverage of €250,000.00. The details are set out in Section 51 BRAO. Lawyer Hendrik Kamp maintains professional liability insurance exceeding the prescribed minimum coverage with ERGO Versicherung AG, Leipzig. The geographical scope of this insurance does not apply to liability claims arising from activities carried out by law firms or offices established or maintained in other countries (Section 51 (3) No. 2 BRAO), or to claims for compensation arising from activities in connection with advising on and dealing with non-European law (Section 51 (3) No. 3 BRAO). Claims for compensation arising from the lawyer’s activities before non-European courts are also not covered by the geographical scope of the insurance (§ 51 (3) No. 4 BRAO).
